The prize money was announced by the ICC even before the World Test Championship final started. In this, the team that won the title was to get a prize of about 13.6 crores and the losing team was to get a reward of Rs.6.6 crores. Team India won the toss and elected to bowl in the match. Coming out to bat, the Australian team scored 469 runs in their first innings. Travis Head scored 163 and Steve Smith played brilliant innings of 121 runs from the Kangaroo team. In response to this, the Indian team could score only 296 runs in their first innings.
After this, Australia, while batting in their second innings, declared the innings by scoring 270 runs for 8 wickets and gave a target of 444 runs to Team India. The Indian team, which came to chase the runs, got all out for just 234 runs. In this way, Team India had to face a crushing defeat by 209 runs in the final of World Test Championship.
