The film ‘Salaam Venky’ is the story of a boy who is suffering from a rare disease called Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). In this disease, each and every part of the patient stops working slowly. In such a situation the patient lives for a maximum of 14 years, whereas Venky with his positive thinking lived for 25 years. In the film, Venky’s role is played by Vishal Jethwa and mother Sujata’s role by Kajol.
This is a film on the emotional story of mother and son. Venky demands euthanasia and organ donation from the mother in the last years of her life. Positive thinking Venky does not want to be a burden on his mother. On the other hand, he wants to give life to some people by donating organs along with getting rid of the problem.
At first, mother Sujata flatly rejects this demand of the son, which leads to a tussle between the mother and the son. But with time, the mother’s inner self accepts the son’s wish for death. The intriguing twist in the story comes when the mother knocks on the doors of the law from the hospital for the son’s euthanasia.
Then from politics to the court-court and the media get involved. The enjoyment of the story ahead of this will be more on watching the movie in the theater than reading.
